Erinvale Golf Club
Erinvale Estate Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre is situated adjacent to the Erinvale Golf Estate and is one of the many recreational and team-building facilities we offer to our conference Delegates. Erinvale Golf Estate designed by Gary Player hosted the World Cup in 1996 and in 2003 hosted the South African Airways Open for two years. The length of the course is 5892 meters, 18 Holes. The first nine holes are on low ground and the second nine slopes to a high gradient. The Greens are large but well shaped allowing for several pin placements with different coloured flags. There are no caddy’s only golf carts, which are booked with every game, recommended if you do the 18 holes to accommodate the slope. Another aspect of the course is the magnificent scenery, looking across False Bay, on a clear day you can see across the West Coast towards Table Mountain and even Robin Island. No transport is needed, the hotel does all the transfers. Nothing better after having enjoyed a game of golf than to come back to the hotel and enjoy the nineteenth hole at our Skelligs Irish Pub, on a warm day cool down at the pool and afterwards enjoy one of the culinary delights prepared by our two chefs.

De Zalze Golf Club
A world first for fair trade on the fairways. De Zalze Golf Course has been awarded Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) certification. De Zalze, managed by the Spier Group and co-owned by Spier (75%) and Kleine Zalze (25%), is the first golf course in the world to be recognised for adherence to Fair Trade principles and criteria. De Zalze is situated in Stellenbosch, the world-renowned winelands region of the Cape. The certification follows that of the Spier Hotel which was the first luxury hotel in South Africa to be awarded FTTSA accreditation in 2004. Jennifer Seif, executive director of FTTSA, said that while De Zalze is the first golf course to qualify for FTTSA certification, she is confident that this achievement would spark others in the golf sector to „improve their operations across the triple bottom line of social, economic and environmental performance“. Tanner Methvin, director of sustainable development at Spier, said all of the Spier Group's businesses - including De Zalze, Spier Wines, the Spier Hotel & Conference Centre and the leisure estate are committed to embedding the ethos of sustainable development into business practice. The De Zalze golf course was designed by Peter Matkovitch, well known for his „listen to the land“ approach to designing environmentally-friendly golf courses. De Zalze has over the past four years consistently improved its position in the Golf Digest rankings, from 44th in 2002 to 23rd in 2006. De Zalze has been rated one of three platinum courses in the Western Cape by Compleat Golfer and in February 2007, achieved the service-oriented five star Golf Experience Award, joining only 14 courses out of the 437 in SA. Dave Hansen, managing director of De Zalze Golf, is ecstatic that the course has achieved a first in terms of responsible tourism guidelines. „That we have received third party recognition for our efforts is an honour for De Zalze. We have always worked within the construct of social equity and environmental conservation in our approach to business,“Hansen said.
What are FTTSA criteria?
The FTTSA Trademark, an independent symbol of fairness in the tourism industry, is awarded to tourism establishments that meet stringent criteria based on fair share, democracy, respect, reliability, transparency and sustainability.
